The site is traditionally believed to be where the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha first landed in Sri Lanka, brought by Prince Dantha and Princess Hemamala from India during the reign of King Kithsirimevan (4th century CE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“<\/strong>The daughter and son of King Guhasive who ruined India, Princess Hemamala and Prince (son-in-law) Dantha respectively reached the Lankapatuna area during BC 303 – 331 with the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that, the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha was handed over to King Kithsirimewan who ruined in Anuradhapura at that time period. “<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

How to Visit Lankapatuna from Colombo, Trincomalee and Kandy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lankapatuna is located near the edge of the seashore and well inside (12 km) from the Trincomalee – Chenkaladi main road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lankapatuna is located 300 km away from Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. From Kandy city, there are around 200 km to Lankapatuna. Because there are so many other locations to visit around Lankapatuna and Trincomalee district, you can visit more places during the travelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
