Akkaraipattu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trincomalee &#8211; Mutur<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Construction of Upparu Bridge in 2011<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the bridge was built, people had to use a ferry to cross the river, which wasn\u2019t always convenient. But in 2011, the bridge was officially opened, making travel much easier for everyone in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction cost around 995 million Sri Lankan rupees (about 9 million US dollars). It was funded by a soft loan from the French Development Agency and also supported by the Sri Lankan Government under the Eastern Awakening program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since its opening, the bridge has made a huge difference in transportation, helping local businesses and making daily travel much smoother. The Uppu Aru river, which it crosses, is a brackish water body, often referred to as the &#8220;salt river&#8221; by locals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Overall, this bridge has been a game-changer for the eastern
