Moon Plains, located in Nuwara Eliya district, Sri Lanka, is a scenic plateau renowned for its stunning landscapes and biodiversity. It is a popular eco-tourism destination and part of the Agricultural Research Station of the Department of Agriculture.

Moon plains, also called as Sandathenna in Sinhalese is a greenish and scenery view point which provide you a 3600 view.

Moon Plains View Point
Moon Plains view point is located at the edge of Central Province and Uva Province. A 360 degree view brings you a scenic panorama image. You can view Hakgala mountain range, Pidurutalaga mountain ranges.

Environment of Moon Plains
Moon Plains is located in a cold environment with a strong breeze. In a few minutes, the whole environment can be hidden in mist.
Above 6,000 ft of sea level, Moon plains is similar to the Horton Plains National Park.

Reaching Moon Plains
You can readily reach Moon Plains’ entrance gate by car or by hiring a cab from Nuwaraeliya. If you are interested, you can also walk or can take public transport. It is just 3 km away from Gregory Lake to the Moon Plains’ entrance point.

It is a just 20-minute journey from Nuwaraeliya city. At the entrance, you need to buy an entrance ticket to visit the Moon plain’s view point.




Visit Moon Plains Viewpoint
You can visit the viewpoint by your vehicle. So, you need to hire a cab to reach the viewpoint. The hiring cost will be around Rs. 3,000.00 per trip, and a maximum of 6 persons will be allowed in a single vehicle.
It will take about 15-20 minutes to reach the viewpoint from the entrance gate. You can spend about 20-30 minutes at the viewpoint and should return to the entrance gate.
